Why You Should Copy Village Church’s Playbook on YouTube

They make YouTube-native content.

YouTube is an incredible platform. Until TikTok came along, YouTube was the number one place for new artists, creators, and companies to be discovered. I still think the platform is powerful for discoverability, but not nearly as much as TikTok, but that’s for another post.

Before we get into what Village Church is doing right, let’s understand what most people are doing wrong on YouTube.

This isn’t just churches either. A lot of companies, podcasts, and creators use YouTube this way. They just redistribute content used elsewhere and throw it on YouTube.

Maybe they like how it’s professionally produced and don’t want to waste all the effort spent on a video, and that’s fine — redistribution isn’t bad. It’s just not the only thing churches should be doing on the platform.

How Village Church is Innovating

Mark Clark pastors the Village Church in Canada (not to be confused with The Village Church in Texas pastored by Matt Chandler).

Mark is a modern-day evangelist who is a strong proponent against “modern Christianity” and isn’t afraid to say what he’s thinking from the stage.

One of the coolest ways they are innovating on YouTube is taking a trendy video style, reaction videos, and using that to grow their audience.

Pastor Mark Clark will watch a popular video, message, or event happening in culture right now and respond to it on camera. He breaks down the logic behind the video and unpacks how Christians should be responding to the event through a biblical worldview.

Why This is So Important

This is a smart strategy because younger Christians are looking at all of these events happening in our world and thinking, “Okay. How should I respond?”

No other pastor or church is creating content like this. Maybe they’re too scared to say the wrong thing or might be too busy running a church. It doesn’t matter why, but Pastor Mark Clark is being a stronghold to Christians and teaching them how to react Biblically.

Don’t Just Copy Them.

I’m not saying you should go and start making reaction videos on YouTube.

I’m encouraging you to think critically and understand how the YouTube platform works. Reaction videos are YouTube-native content that people love to watch already.

The good news? There are many more video structure ideas just like this one, ready for some innovation and biblical adoption.

Go get ‘em.
